Yuntaishan Geopark

Yuntaishan Global Geopark is located in the north of Jiaozuo City, in the southern foothills of Taihang Mountains, with a total park area of approximately 556 km2, it is mainly characterized by rifting structures, hydrodynamic processes and geological physiognomy landscape; of course, natural ecological and human landscapes here are also typical characteristics. So Yuntai Mountain GGP is a comprehensive geopark combining scientific and aesthetic value in one.

The geopark consists of a series of geologic features, they all have their unique scientific significance and aesthetic values as the record of local geologic history and geological progresses. “Yuntai Geomorphology”, typical geological relicts of neotectonic movement, formed under the grand control of rifting system, it also has been a new member of Chinese physiognomy family. On the stable northern China platform, a sequence of continental sediments is developed as the record of epicontinental deposition from the Mesoproterozoic to the Paleozoic Era. The unique topographic landforms of Yuntai Mountain Geopark combine the grand panorama of the north and the exquisite beauty of the south. The Geopark also serves as a natural reserve for the most northern distribution of macaque monkeys in mainland Asia.
