Letter of Qinling Zhongnanshan on Collecting Science Popularization Publicity Materials

Recently, in order to promote public reading, tell the story of the global geopark, and better play the role of science popularization of the global geopark, Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark has upgraded its museum by adding Cuihua Reading Room, where more than 1,000 books about Qinling are exhibited. To enrich the book collection, Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark has launched the “Science Popularization Reading Collection in China Global Geoparks” activity, which is open to 41 global geoparks in China. The activity has been strongly supported by the China Global Geopark Network Office, which has forwarded the “Letter of Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark on Collecting Science Popularization Publicity Materials” on its website. By now, some publicity materials have been recieved. When it is ready, a special exhibition of “Amazing Nature, Charming Geology” will be set up in Cuihua Reading Room to show the achievements of science popularization of China’s global geoparks from different angles. The purpose of this activity is to take advantage of the mutual assistance provided by the global geopark platform, promote exchanges and cooperation among global geoparks, and demonstrate new forms of science popularization and the new ways to do it.

Letter of Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark on Collecting Science Popularization Publicity Materials

Dear China Global Geoparks,

Qinling Zhongnanshan has been approved by UNESCO to join the list of global geoparks since 2009. It has become the first global geopark in northwest China for more than ten years. As the name card of Qinling, it is deeply loved and yearned by geological enthusiasts at home and abroad, and has become an important natural science education and practice base in China.

In order to promote the nationwide reading campaign, better tell the story of global geoparks, provide the experience of relaxing and reading to tourists and local residents, furthur perform global geoparks’ function of science popularization and to promote the brand building, Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark has upgraded its geological museum and set up the Cuihua Reading Room. Now Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark would like to collect science popularization readings from all other global geoparks in China, and details can be read as follows:

1. Introduction

To furthur promote exchanges and cooperation among global geoparks and to show the achievements of science popularization of China’s global geoparks from different angles, a special exhibition of “Amazing Nature, Charming Geology” will be set up in Cuihua Reading Room.

2. Requirements for Publicity Materials

The popular science readings and publicity materials collected this time should be registered in press and publishing institutions or officially published (including translated and reprinted books). Each geopark is welcomed to provide 2 sets of representative publicity materials according to its actual situation. Requirements for the materials are as follows:

(1) It has the connotation of popularizing scientific and technological knowledge, advocating scientific methods, disseminating scientific ideas and promoting scientific spirit;

(2) It has a strong ideological and scientific nature, meet the requirements for popularizing scientific and technological knowledge in the field of global geoparks, and can encourage people to love science, learn science and use science;

(3) It is highly artistic and interesting, with vivid and fluent language, lively form, rich content, and easy to understand;

(4) Original works, novel topics and ideas, unique creative techniques and forms of expression;

3. Ways of Collecting

Publicity materials need to be mailed to Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark.
