Geological period
The development and evolution of regional geology mainly experienced four stages’ transformation: Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic, including Archean, early, middle and late Proterozoic, Cambrian, Ordovician, Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian, Cretaceous, Paleogene, Neogene and Quaternary.

The main rock types exposed in this area are gneiss, migmatite, schist, amphibolite, marble, phyllite, granite, diorite, granodiorite, mylonite, ophiolite, siltstone, glutenite, mudstone, dolomite, etc.

Distinct geological and geomorphological feature
The distinct geological and geomorphological features include mountain collapse-slide in Cuihuashan, Quaternary glacier in Taibaishan, granititic peaks and ridges in Wangshunshan and Nanwutai, spheroidal weathering of granite in Fengyu and Bingjingding, periglacial landform in Taibaishan and Bingjingding and gorge in Heihe valley, etc..
