From September 22 to 25, 2024, the 2024 China Geopark Annual Conference and the 20th Anniversary Symposium of the Global Geopark Network were held in Xingyi, Guizhou. The conference focused on the development and achievements, opportunities and challenges, experiences and sharing of Global geoparks in China in the past 20 years, displaying the “Chinese model” of geoparks to the world, telling China’s scientific stories and promoting the sustainable development of geoparks. At the conference, 6 new geoparks, new members of the GGN, were introduced and delivered speeches, and the “20th Anniversary of China’s Global Geopark Development and Construction - Xingyi Declaration” was also read out.
After the conference, the representatives inspected the core scenic area of Xingyi Global Geopark, visited the Geopark Museum and Guizhou Dragon Fossil Site Protection Museum, the Global Geopark Primary School and Ethnic Style Block, deeply felt the charm of natural landscapes, ancient biological fossils, and geological deposits, and experienced the close connection and interaction between the geopark and the community, which was a classic case of geological tourism coming to life and very worthy of our learning and reference.
