Xi’an recently released its list of practical teaching sites for “Ideological and Political Education,” and the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark has been designated as one of the city’s 56 municipal-level teaching bases. Recognized for its rich ecological resources, remarkable geological significance, and deep cultural heritage, the geopark offers a unique setting for experiential learning.
In recent years, Xi’an has been steadily advancing its “Ideological and Political Education” program by developing high-quality practical teaching platforms and fostering innovation in both the form and content of civic education. The Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark has consistently followed its guiding principle of “staying rooted in the Qinling Mountains, serving the public, deepening scientific outreach, and contributing to society.” It has actively explored interdisciplinary teaching methods that integrate geological science with ideological education and has become an integral part of the city’s civic education system. Through diverse activities such as volunteer services, science lectures, and study tours, the geopark has helped spread geological knowledge, promote ecological awareness, and demonstrate the spirit of volunteerism—dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress. These efforts represent a meaningful step toward combining ideological education with natural science outreach.
This recognition affirms the geopark’s commitment to science education and public service. Moving forward, the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark will build on this achievement by further optimizing resource integration and instructional design. It will continue to merge geological science education with civic learning, encouraging students to strengthen their ecological awareness through nature exploration and enhance their social responsibility through hands-on experience. In this way, the lush mountains and clear waters of the Qinling range will serve as a dynamic classroom for moral and intellectual development—contributing not only to the success of Xi’an’s “Ideological and Political Education” program but also to the protection and sustainable development of the Qinling ecological environment.
