The 6th International UNESCO Conference on Global Geoparks was held from September 19 to 22, 2014 in Saint John, Stonehammer Global Geopark, Canada, and attended by 500 delegates from 30 countries.
The conference opened at 9:00am on 19 at Saint John Trade & Convention Centre, with the theme “Connecting”. During the conference, the geoparks discussed on subjects including geoparks and sustainable use of natural resources, engaging communities, education and interpretation in geoparks, UNESCO collaboration, and intangible cultural heritages, etc., and shared experience in geopark building and management. The conference also included a “10th Anniversary of GGN” exhibition, in which the beauty and achievements of 29 Chinese global geoparks were fully exhibited in a special area.

As part of the 6th International Conference on Geoparks, the General Assembly of the GGN was held on September 20. All members of the GGN met and discussed the development on the proposed International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme and voted to the proposal for the GGN to obtain legal character.
