Xi’an, China—March 28, 2025—To further enhance ecological conservation awareness in the Qinling region, promote the inheritance of scientific and cultural heritage, drive community development, and forge a collaborative synergy, a delegation of seven representatives from the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark Management Center visited the Shaanxi Niubeiliang National Nature Reserve Administration Bureau on March 28, 2025, to sign a cooperative agreement and conduct exchange activities. Attendees included Yang Jianping, Director of the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark Management Center; Deputy Director Wang Fang; heads of various departments; Meng Hailong, Director of the Shaanxi Niubeiliang National Nature Reserve Administration Bureau; Deputy Director Bai Bing; and leaders of relevant departments.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Niubeiliang Reserve Administration Bureau’s history exhibition hall and biodiversity museum. Both parties agreed to leverage their respective strengths, establish effective collaboration mechanisms, and work toward building a shared framework of mutual advancement, co-governance, and joint conservation.
Subsequently, an exchange symposium was held, where the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on conservation management philosophies for UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and Global Geoparks. They signed a Friendly Cooperation Agreement outlining eight key areas of collaboration, including sharing methodologies and expertise for managing natural and cultural resources, jointly strengthening the protection and management of Qinling ecological conservation area, sharing environmental education programs, schedules, and facilities, exchanging scientific research achievements, sharing information on cooperative development initiatives, promoting successful models of community engagement and so on.
The signing of this agreement marks a pioneering effort by two world-class conservation areas in Shaanxi Province to actively advance ecological civilization. As the saying goes, “Understanding breeds care; knowing its value fosters preservation.” Moving forward, the partnership will amplify the role of protected areas in resource conservation, sustainable management, and regional economic development, while elevating the global profiles of both the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark and the Niubeiliang Biosphere Reserve.
