From September 5th to 10th, 2023, led by Wang Chuang, Deputy Director of the Xi'an Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, the delegation of four members from the Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark was invited to participate in the 10th International Conference of UNESCO Global Geoparks held in Marrakech, Morocco. The conference is hosted by the Muguin Global Geopark in Morocco, with the theme of “Communities in the Development of UNESCO Global Geoparks".
The representatives of the Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark submitted two papers: the “Study on the Construction Status and Science Education Methods of Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark” and the “Sustainable Development on Cultural Ecotourism, Case of Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark” to the conference.
During the conference, representatives of Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark participated in the Asia Pacific Geopark Network Conference, 9 Thematic Workshops, GGN General Assembly, and the Global Geopark Exhibition. The delegation actively engaged in learning and exchanging with representatives of various global geoparks, especially with sister geoparks such as the Alps Geopark in Italy, Langkawi Geopark in Malaysia, and Loqua Global Geopark in Finland, for further in-depth cooperation, and communicating with Lübelon Global Geopark in France and the Belgisch Odenwald Mountain Global Geopark in Germany on establishing sister geopark relationship. At the Global Geopark Exhibition, Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark distributed over 1,000 promotional materials and received over 5,000 visitors. The unique geological features and magnificent natural scenery of Qinling Zhongnanshan attracted the attention of many global geopark managers, participants and media.
The International Conference of UNESCO Global Geoparks is held every two years and is the highest level conference of GGN. The 10th international conference has attracted more than 1,500 experts, scholars and geopark representatives from over 50 countries to gather together to discuss the sustainable development of geoparks.
