On May 29, 2025, the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark launched the “Fragrant Zongzi, Caring Hearts; Children’s Dreams, Shared Wishes” volunteer activity focused on children’s growth. Invited by the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark Tourism Development Co., Ltd. and the Xilv Automobile Company, nearly one hundred teachers and students from Tuqiao Primary School in Yuchuan Village, Lintong District visited the geopark’s Cuihuashan Scenic Area.
A volunteer service team composed of Party members and youth representatives created an unforgettable growth journey for the children through a combination of “cultural experience + interactive care”.
By applying diverse methods like popular science videos, mineral specimens, and fun Q&A sessions, the geopark volunteers explained the formation history of the Qinling Mountains and its geological features to children. This transformed the experience into a “walking classroom”, allowing the children to feel the charm of natural science.
During the Dragon Boat Festival folk custom experience, volunteers patiently taught the children how to make zongzi (traditional sticky rice dumplings), guiding them step-by-step from folding the bamboo leaves to filling them with rice. This hands-on food-making activity immersed the children in the profound heritage of China’s excellent traditional culture.
Subsequently, volunteers led the children on a boat ride on Tianchi Lake and to explore the geological wonders of the ice and wind caves. They observed the rock avalanche landforms up close, and explanations with the actual scenery helped broaden the children’s horizons and increase their knowledge.
Finally, volunteers organized a series of team-building and group interactive games. Laughter filled the air as the children enhanced their sense of cooperation and communication skills. At the event, the children received Children’s Day gifts carefully prepared by the geopark, their faces blossoming with bright smiles.
Fulfilling social responsibilities and spreading warmth are obligations the geopark embraces. In the future, the Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark will continue to leverage its platform of geological and cultural resources to organize diverse volunteer service activities, deepen practical engagement with surrounding communities, continuously focus on children’s growth needs and inject more warmth and strength into children’s development through concrete actions.
