In late August 2018, Qinling Zhongnanshan UNESCO Global Geopark carried out an inspection of the geopark for one month to comprehensively implement the instructions on protecting Qinling given by General Secretary Xi Jinping.
In order to carry out the inspection effectively, we firstly established an inspection team with members coming from the geopark and branch bureaus and clarified the tasks and responsibilities. Then we held a mobilization meeting and learnt the instructions on the dismantlement of illegal buildings on the northern side of Qinling given by Mr. Wang Yongkang, secretary of Xi’an Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. Finally, we organized trainings for all related people to make sure the effectiveness.
The key points of the inspection include the following aspects: ①the rectification progress of environmental damages spotted by the central leaders, central environmental supervision team, the media or the general public; ②illegal activities affecting protected land, buffer zone or core zone in the geopark; ③the implementation progress of several important documents including the No. 63 document in 2010 issued by State Council; ④getting the geopark’s original data and current status data including official permits, management body, four boundaries, planning maps and construction status etc.
With the requirements of full coverage, zero tolerance, strict law enforcement and focusing on rectification and by carrying out the inspection, we got the first hand information of the geopark’s original data, weak parts in the geopark management and the illegal constructions and environment damaging situations. By doing so, we’ll strengthen measures to protect the geopark in an original, systematic and comprehensive way.
